Adelpo vs DSSI for long-term care procurement

Adelpo and DSSI compared for long-term care operators, covering who runs each platform, the invoice after the order, and who does the work.

Picture a purchasing director at an operator with a dozen buildings, comparing platforms at contract renewal, whose dietary and nursing staff order through DSSI order guides. The other half of that decision is what happens to each invoice after the order goes in, and whose staff does that work.

We build Adelpo, so this is one vendor writing about another. Each statement about DSSI or Direct Supply below cites their own website as we read it on October 6, 2026. If their site says something different today, go by their site.

Who runs each platform

DSSI's website says Direct Supply has operated DSSI since 1995. Direct Supply's own site also lists equipment and furnishings for senior living, sold through its online catalog.

Adelpo is software and is independent of any distributor. If keeping your spend system separate from your suppliers matters to your team, ask each vendor about it in the demo and decide for yourself.

Per patient day budgets

DSSI's site describes a Budget Control tool that takes census from an EMR feed, from an AP platform, or by manual upload, and reports cost per resident day. Census budgeting by itself does not separate the two products.

Adelpo pulls census every day from PointClickCare, MatrixCare, and other EHRs, and each facility's per patient day budget moves with it. Our post on how a PPD budget moves when the census moves walks through one department. In a demo, ask both vendors to show a week when census dropped and what the dietary manager saw the next morning.

After the order, the invoice

In Adelpo, the PO, the receiving record, and the invoice sit in one system. Invoices come in from any format, get matched three ways against the PO and the receipt, get checked for duplicates, and are paid by ACH or check from the same platform. The entries sync to Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, NetSuite, or Microsoft Dynamics.

The Price Discrepancies Report puts the ordered price next to the invoiced price and the contracted, GPO, or negotiated price, line by line. Our post on where a three-way match breaks shows what the AP clerk sees when a line fails.

DSSI's site describes procure-to-pay software and AP automation as well. A fair test is one real invoice from a local vendor, a produce company or a linen service, walked from arrival to payment in each system, with each vendor showing who fixes a price mismatch and on which screen.

Who does the work

DSSI's site describes spend management consulting alongside the software and says more than 130 organizations used those services in 2025. An operator that wants an outside team involved in its spend management should weigh that.

Adelpo is software your own staff runs. Every customer gets unlimited one-on-one retraining and a named account rep.

Scale

DSSI's site cites 19,000 facilities and more than 300 organizations served since 1995. Adelpo runs across 2,500+ facilities and 300+ organizations. The software was developed in 2006 and the first customer came on in 2008.

The founder owns and operates nursing homes. Those counts say little about fit, so ask each vendor for a reference at an operator with about as many buildings as you.

Switching

Deployment runs 3 to 4 weeks per facility and 8 to 16 weeks for a large portfolio rollout. Direct Supply can stay on your vendor list if you still buy from them, and there is no limit on how many vendors you set up in Adelpo.

Plan on about 45 days to collect a new customer's full spend data. The savings reports mean something after that, not in the first week. If you are weighing more than these two platforms, our buying guide to skilled nursing procurement software covers the wider field.

Who runs DSSI?

DSSI's website says Direct Supply has operated DSSI since 1995. Direct Supply's site also lists equipment and furnishings for senior living, sold through its own catalog.

Does DSSI do per patient day budgeting?

How long does switching from DSSI to Adelpo take?

Deployment takes 3 to 4 weeks per facility and 8 to 16 weeks for a large portfolio rollout. Allow about 45 days to collect your full spend data before you read the savings reports.
